Summary/Abstract: The problems of human capital influence on the economic growth of countries constitute the subject matter of empirical studies and theoretical discussions carried out by numerous economists. Economic theory indicates the importance of human capital as one of the factors responsible for the growth. A positive impact of human capital on long-term economic growth has been observed. The purpose of this study is to identify both the direction and strength of dependence occurring between human resources in science and technology (HRST) and in the subgroups covering: human resources in science and technology – tertiary education graduates (HRSTE), human resources in science and technology – occupation (HRSTO), human resources in science and technology – core qualifications (HRSTC), as well as specialists and engineers (SE) against GDP level per capita. Univariate regression analysis was applied in empirical studies. The time range of the conducted research refers to the period of 2008-2013 whereas its spatial range covers the European Union Member States.
