Summary/Abstract: Entertainment complicated the cultural hierarchy in interwar Belgrade that privileged the arts and national culture. While cultural elites and state agencies were invested in preserving their own salience in the capital, entertainment was becoming more popular among the growing urban classes. Entertainment, particularly trends from abroad, changed not only how Belgraders participated in the city, but also how they defined culture.
