Summary/Abstract: Directions and pace of development of the modern international passenger transport market in relations with Poland determine on one hand constantly evolving occurrences of competition and cooperation, and on the other the external conditions, including in particular those related to the condition of the global economy. The share of each mode of transport in serving passenger traffic to and from Poland is diverse and determined by a number of factors, including primarily the travel motivations, the distance and geographical range. The aim of this article is to illustrate the international passenger transport market in relations with Poland and an indication of the direction and determinants of its development in the economic downturn. The article uses primarily the official statistics published by the Central Statistical Office and other organizations and entities including i.a. the European Statistical Office (Eurostat), the World Tourism Organization (UN WTO), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Poland.
