“At this hour all things mingle and agree”: the stakes of an Argentine game of postcolonialism

Summary/Abstract: Scholars of Latin-American literatures and cultures have tended to be suspicious of postcolonial studies, but recently their doubts were overcome. Jaroszuk explores the growing impact of postcolonial studies on debates concerning Latin-American identities. César Aira’s cycle on the pampa is among the many contemporary Argentine texts marked by what Alfonso de Toro describes as a shift in the identity paradigm. Jaroszuk examines three novels from this cycle: Ema, the captive, The hare and An episode in the life of a landscape painter.
