Summary/Abstract: The changes in the regional security paradigm that took place in 2014 in the immediate vicinity of the Black Sea have determined shifts in the existing cooperation mechanisms, posing new challenges to European common foreign and security policies. The present paper wishes to analyze the potential evolution prospectives of the Eastern Partnerships, the Black Sea Sinergy, as well as the challenges that the consolidation of the Russian Federation’s presence in the Black Sea pose to the common defence policy. Furthermore, it proposes a few questions to ponder upon: is Ukraine a game changer for the European Union’s policy towards its Eastern neighbors? Will there be a strengthening of the cooperation between Russia and Turkey in the Black Sea Basin? What will be the future role of NATO and the EU in the region? And, last but not least, what will be Romania’s contribution to the new geostrategic game at the Black Sea?
