The Pondus et Ordo Principle in the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium and Its Message for Preaching

Summary/Abstract: According to the Decree on Ecumenism Unitatis Redintegratio in no.11 the pondus et ordo which arranges the contents of faith according to their “relation with the base or root of Christian faith” is of great importance for preaching. The principle requires the truths of faith and morality are not only communicated truly according to the Gospel, but also in the way that the primary (central) truths are preached and experienced in devotion primarily and the secondary (minor) secondarily. The principle has been very much appreciated by the Pope Francis in the Apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium. The article analyses statements concerning the problem, included in the document.
