Summary/Abstract: This essay analyses some aspects of Dostoevsky’s fiction, namely the way he used to present the characters, following the tradition of psychological novel, but also acquiring some new dimension, mostly that of a tragic inner conflict. Besides, Crime and Punishment, the well-known novel of the Russian author, succeeds in imposing a brand new type of writing and that would be the so called „polyphonic fiction”, defined as such by M. Bahtin among other interprets. Dostoevsky’s heroes reach spiritual resurrection only after having experienced the whole tragic dimension of human suffering and only by making efforts to find the right kind of atonement.
