Summary/Abstract: Polish accession to the EU and the opening of new work markets caused the fall of unemployment in Poland. In 2005-2008, the unemployment rate decreased, but since 2009 this rate became significant again also on rural teritory. After the accession the number of rural residents going abroad for job was far greater than before. The aim of study is to present the reasons of emigration of rural residents of Pomorze and Mazury region, to show the scale of emigration and diversity of age of migrants. The study used research of the CSO and the IAFE- -NRI. The research has shown that unemployment contributed to the increase of emigration and emigration decreased the level of unemployment. In 2011, 123.5 thousand mostly young people of the rural population of Pomorze and Mazury region were permanently abroad.
