Summary/Abstract: Moodle was build up based on socio-constructivist principles and in order to promote collaborative learning. Therefore, the whole concept of the platform focuses on building communities of learning. There are several tools that promote communication in Moodle: from personal messages to chats. Collaborative learning activities include wikies or glossaries, where collaborative materials can be developed by students and teachers. The discussion forums and questions and answers forums facilitate debates, clarifications and exchanges of information and perspectives. The workshops take the collaborative learning to another level, offering peer to peer evaluation. Comments and feedback opportunities are also important in developing a collaborative learning community within a course.
