Summary/Abstract: China during last decades has become a global player in terms of research, science and technology development. The paper tries to answer the question of the way China has become one of the most important actors in this field. The paper makes an attempt to analyse the process of creating the Chinese innovation system. The progress of this phenomenon as well as the aim of China’s innovation policy and conditions associated with this strategy are analysed. The main determinant of these changes is the eagerness to transform the economy, based on the export of low value added products into a highly innovative economy, which is based on the export of advanced technologies. As a result of this strategy, Chinese enterprises can obtain greater benefits from the process of international capital transfers and they may enter more and more widely into global markets.
