Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present how nuns define the concept of femininity. Analyses base on biographical interviews conducted among inhabitants of one of Polish monasteries. To define their gender identity, nuns do not create an alternative model of femininity. Instead, they use the categories of traditional femininity which they adapt to the monastic reality using the idea of sacrifice. Respondents view on femininity is consistent with the role of women proposed by The Roman Catholic Church.
