Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the institution of collective redundancies under the Polish law. The author outlines the historical development of this institution as well as the objectives which the legislation is meant to achieve. The text also contains analyses of the collective procedure with the participation of employee representatives (trade unions or elected representation), the employer’s duties towards public authorities, facilitations in terminating employment relationships and additional rights granted by the law to redundant employees. The regulations are assessed from the perspective of protective standards as well as in the light of the European Union law. The author attempts to point out the weaker elements of the existing system and to formulate some de lege ferenda proposals.
