A New Vision About the Role of the National Archives of Romania: the Awareness of the Young People about the Importance of the Archival Heritage

Summary/Abstract: Due to the constant destruction of documents in the Romanian space, the National Archives of Romania should initiate and conduct a series of educational activities with pupils and students in order to protect the archival heritage belonging to all ethnic and religious communities. Thus, by starting a program entitled The Educational Archives, children would understand the old documents, learn to appreciate and to use them and to become aware that the documents are the ones which preserve the memory and the rights of individuals and of the local communities. With the help of education, people would understand that the destruction of documents due to indifference means the loss of citizens’ rights, of individual or collective memory and even the loss of some business opportunities. Consequent to this program, Romania would join the European cultural trend, since the pupils and students would understand the scientific and practical importance of archives and that a document is more valuable if it can be used by all citizens in order to gain their rights.
