Summary/Abstract: The architectural details of the monastery “St. Iliya” near to the village of Chintulovo, the region of Sliven and the legend about its patron are studied in view of the problem of worship¬ping a cult place by both Christians and Muslims, as well as about the conversion of Islamic sacred place into Christian. A comparative material from other regions of the country and the Balkans is presented and the following functions are highlighted: the co-habitation of Mus¬lims and Christians in a village; the demographic instability; the faith common to Christianity and Sufism about the holly person being a mediator. The blood sacrifice practiced by both confessional groups is evaluated as an important factor for personification and conversion.
