Summary/Abstract: The status of women in the Middle Ages is related not only to the roles attributed to them by the society or by the Church, but it also has to do with their economic power and implicitly with what they used to receive from their parents or from their husbands after their deaths or at their weddings. Given the importance of the dowry and the inheritance for the medieval women’s status in a society in which women did not work (in a contemporary sense), this paper aims to present the most important features of the inheritance system on female line in the Middle Ages in Europe and in the Romanian Countries.
