Summary/Abstract: : This paper follows the history of the Republic of Florence during one of its most challenging periods. The topic is approached from a historical and historiographical point of view, and the paper brings into focus the structural mutations of the republic in relation to the conflict surrounding the institutions of the Primo Popolo and the creation of the Italian League.
