Summary/Abstract: It is important to draw a distinction between ideology and ideals. Ideology is a blinkered view of the world, and it results in people being under constant pressure to conform, to somehow bring reality into line with an idea. This most commonly results in dogmatism or rigidity, and simplistic approaches. On the other hand, politics driven by ideals allows room to develop a pragmatic response to changes in the world around us.
