A model of the pioneer narrative: similarities in collective memories

Summary/Abstract: This articles compares pioneer figures in three areas of collective memory: the European colonization of North America, the resettlement of formerly German territories by Poles after World War II, and the beginnings of Polish rap music. Lewandowski uncovers significant similarities in the ways pioneer figures are constructed and in the ways their deeds are narrated. His interpretation of these similarities leads to a general model of the pioneer narrative.
