Summary/Abstract: Bluebeard belongs to one of the most popular figures in the literature since the 18th century. The sexual act is not only the way to demonstrate his fight against the women but it is also the way to manifest his faith in God: He regards the defloration as a sacrament because its brutality reminds him of the brutality of Christ’s death on the cross.
