Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to answer the question: what are the apostolic and contemplative aspects of religious life with regards to St. Francis' imitators based on the “Constitutions of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual?” It may be treated as a kind of exemplar, which indicates how to combine these two aspects in proper balance and proportions for those in consecrated life, especially in the orders leading an active apostolic life. The first part of the article discusses the apostolic witness of the life of the Franciscans, their own apostolate and the apostolate commissioned by the Church hierarchy. The second part presents specific elements of contemplative life of the Franciscans: the prayer life, conversion and penance, and community life.
