Summary/Abstract: The present paper is dedicated to one of the most heavy mental disorders which is Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), called also Multiple Ppersonality Ddisorder. First, the symptoms of the DID according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders DSM-IV are described. Subsequently, three etiological models of the DID are delineated: psychoanalytical model, autohypnotic model and developmental model. Finally, general lines of treatment of the disorder are briefly outlined.
