Summary/Abstract: The title of this paper refers to the subject matter which has been taught by the author at the Institute of Social Prevention and Resocialization, in the period from 2006 to 2011, in various didactic forms and in different number of hours. The relation between the sociology of law and the politics of law, i.e. attempts taken to reform law and to influence social behaviors through legal means, is undisputed. This is most clearly exemplified by the Polish sociology of law, for which the legacy of Leon Petrażycki and Adam Podgórecki, is still a major source of inspiration. We take as a point of reference Polish sociology of law, and its critical stream in particular. This paper focuses on the questions which, in our opinion, are fundamental to understand the essence and the role of the sociological and legal approach in the analysis of the legal reality in social life.
