Summary/Abstract: The archaeological research in the northern Lower Danube (Budjak) show, decisively, that the name of “wasteland of the Getae” given to this area by the known ancient geographer Strabon must not be taken ad literam, but as meaning a plain with its particularities, populated by sedentary communities of farmers (Dacians, Daco-Romans), through which the nomad peoples (Sarmatians and others) also passed. Starting with the 1st c. AD, the historical evolution of this area, during the period in question, has taken place under the “aegis” of the Roman Empire, who employed a unitary defense and control policy for the northern part of the Lower Danube.
