Summary/Abstract: The multitude of terminological designations of Bulgarian emigrant groups abroad is represented and analyzed in this text. The conclusion is that the category which most precisely reveals the content of the Bulgarian presence outside the Bulgarian state borders is the notion of the community. At the same time, being integrated in the frames of the corresponding society, the Bulgarians are constituted and promoted as a community in interaction with other ethnic groups on the same territory, and mostly with the dominating group or the state-building majority. Therefore, we have enough grounds to talk about “Bulgarians in another ethnic milieu” in these circumstances. Bulgarian communities are further typologically distinguished and specific ethnoclavic, ethnodiasporic and ethnodispersed Bulgarian groups are analyzed.
