Summary/Abstract: The article concerns social capital and its impact on regional development. Appropriate recognition of the needs of local community organizations is essential to create a cooperation policy of residents and local government units. Local organization management policy will be the final result of a project conducted by the author of the article. In the empirical part of the article presents the results of a pilot survey of 140 residents of small towns or villages located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The results of the study clearly show that residents perceive the relationship between grassroots initiatives and the development of the region. Respondents describe the organizations in which they operate and their motivations to act. They also express an opinion on the reasons for the lack of involvement of other people in the work for the local community
