Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of education on the development of information and communication technologies (ICT) in transition countries. The aim is to identify, by using the appropriate methodology, the connection between the level of education development and the development of ICT, which are measured by several indicators within the IDI (ICT Development Index). The research uses cluster analysis, descriptive statistics, and comparative, correlation, and regression analysis. The research results and discussion are organized in the following three segments: a) examination of interdependence between ICT development and education level, b) analysis of the impact of the Adult literacy rate, Secondary gross enrollment ratio and Tertiary gross enrollment ratio on the ICT development level, and c) heterogeneity test of transition economies according to the level of education, as well as its influence on the development of ICT. The results of the analysis indicate the existence of a positive correlation between the ICT development and the level of education development. The development of higher education has the most important influence on the development and application of ICT.
