Summary/Abstract: Iwona Sowińska’s book "Polska muzyka filmowa 1945-1968" ["Polish Film Music in 1945-1968"] is exceptional both on Poland’s and international publishing market and in literature on film sciences. Although some books were written on film music, they were strictly theoretical works on composers, the scores they wrote or on selected issues. A historical aspect has hardly been present in the writings. The issue of film music, which by nature is elusive, is viewed both in synchronic and diachronic context. Helman writes that the book combines Sowińska’s expertise on the history of cinema with competence in music, which makes the book an interesting and exceptional read.
