Interdependence of the main areas of university activity

Summary/Abstract: The objective of the paper is twofold. First, it examines the complementariness or trade-off existing between the activities of teaching, research and administration. Second it analyses the efficiency of teaching, research and administration activities carried out by the departments of a university. The findings from the analysis show a positive correlation of three main activities. Finally the achievements of the departments are compared with the financial results of faculties to which particular departments belong. It drives the author to the conclusion that from the financial point of view mainly the educational activity is responsible for the good results of the university.
