Summary/Abstract: Literary fan fiction is both a sign of the specific reception of work (literature, film etc.) and that work’s concretization and interpretation. As such, it becomes a great example of contemporary culture of participation, which can be a hallmark of the prosumer (recipient, who is both a creator or co-creator) or active fan – and both of those names fit perfectly to each fanfic writer. The article presents the basic terminology associated with this phenomenon and author of fan fiction division. Perzyńska illustrates the theoretical issues under discussion with reference to the example a Polish fanfic paraphrasing the Harry Potter books.
