Summary/Abstract: Wróblewski attempts to read Dorota Masłowska’s work in terms of affect. He argues that disgust is the most important feeling that her characters have to face. Wróblewski examines the mechanisms of how the reaction of discust comes about in Masłowska’s description of Silny [or Nails in Benjamin Paloff’s English translation], the protagonist of her debut novel Snow White and Russian Red. He concludes that the main source of the characters discust is his narcissism. Snow White and Russian Red becomes a point of departure for Wróblewski to point out the relationship between disgust and melancholy, which thwarts the development of Polish national identity.
