Summary/Abstract: After the Easy Transport Army Brigade was destroyed in December 1942, in the battles on the Don, the Government of the Independent State of Croatia had no intention of forming the new troops under the Italian command. However, the Italian pressure had again proved too strong, and in May 1943 the recruitment for the Second Croatian Legion began by inclusion of the conscripts from the territory of the Second zone. The capitulation of Italy had caught the Second Croatian Legion on the Italian ground, and the German armed forces used the Legion to ensure the railway Gemona – Tarvisio – Udine. In the late November the situation in the northern Italy stabilised and men from the Second Croatian Legion were sent to Stockerau to complete their training.
