Summary/Abstract: Trade in border regions, as peripheral areas, has very significant socio-economic importance. Almost 20% of GDP comes from trade, as well as for more than 15% of the total working population trade is a source of labor. Therefore, it was considered reasonable to raise questions regarding the funding for this form of economic activity. The aim of this article is to show the scope and dynamics of change in terms of investment outlays among border regions and within them. As a result of the analysis it was proven that the absolute values of investment outlays in trade for the period 1999−2013 were significantly higher in the border regions located along the western and southern border than north-eastern border. In the period 1999−2013 the share of trade in total investment in the border regions was significantly lower than in Poland, and only in case of the Polish-Slovak border region it surpassed the national average. It was noted that there were very large differences in the level of investment outlays in trade between voivodeships within border regions. The reasons for these differences stem from socio-economic potential of voivodeships and the position of the border, despite the existence of the phenomenon that cross-border shopping is less important.
