Summary/Abstract: On 24th–25th October, 2013 a conference called “Homo Legens or Homo Consumens? The Reader and The Book in The 21st Century” took place in Lublin. The conference was organized by the Institute of Library and Information Science at the University of Maria Curie-Sklodowska. The focus was reader identity issues in a consumer society, the condition of contemporary readership in a broad cultural context and diagnosis of the reading culture in the early 21st century. The papers referred mainly to issues of reading habits, fashions and trends, contemporary book market, marketing and advertising of books and libraries, forms of reading promotion and attitudes to new expectations of library users. The article summarizes the meeting and provides basic information on delivered presentations.
