Summary/Abstract: The outline of the study is focusing on the manner in which the image of the other is built inside a social environment, more specifically - the portrait of the immigrant. The premise of the research is based on the way of how mass-media gathers information and distorts the image of the stranger, the foreigner, thus creating a different reality. Considering the rising number of people that are choosing to settle in an EU country, the way immigrants are perceived represents an important aspect and factor for the host-country citizens and their reaction to newcomers. This research thoroughly examines the image of Romanians in the UK press, from 2013 to 2014. The instruments of research that will be used here are combining quantitative and qualitative methods, thus more areas of interest (the social space, politics, sports) are analyzed from daily newspapers, in order to put on display the way the subjects are being depicted and as well the bias of the journalist. Furthermore, this research contains a qualitative component that focuses on the hidden content of the messages, especially the allusions and innuendos that are constantly being made. The study’s conclusions can represent a start point for further solutions and measures against stereotypes of immigrants in general, and the ones related to Romanians that are settled in Britain, in particular.
