TRANSLATING GUSTAVE GUILLAME INTO ITALIAN : CONTRASTIVE REMARKS ON LANGUAGE ACT TERMINOLOGY

Summary/Abstract: This paper presents some terminological and contrastive remarks on the theory of the language act put forward by Gustave Guillaume. In particular, the analysis is based on a corpus of five conferences (series B, 1948-1949) and of our translation of these conferences into Italian. With regard to the difficulties encountered in translating G. Guillaume’s vocabulary, our attention specifically focused on two main aspects of G. Guillaume’s theory: loans from different disciplines, among which there are mechanics and medicine, and context equivalents.
