Summary/Abstract: According to the popular interpretations, Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Sign of Four” (2004) can be read either as a story of revenge and reverse colonisation or of an exotic contamination of the British Empire. This paper combines these two approaches in order to emphasise the medial aspect of tropical invasion and its consequences to national constitution embodied by Sherlock Holmes.
