Summary/Abstract: The findings presented here show a strong correlation between the neural mechanisms of music-syntactic processing, the mechanics of piano playing, and the kind of consciousness associated with attending to music. The objective of this paper is to emphasize emotion perception in music, the functions of the brain areas involved in music processing, and the aesthetic properties of music. The paper generates insights about the vehicles of musical meaning, listening to music as sound and utterance, and the complex structures of a piece of music. We argue for a more critical approach to the issues raised in this paper. It is hoped that these ideas further our understanding of these matters.
