Summary/Abstract: The infl uence that has leaders’ personality upon history has been and will continue to be subject of active debates. In Thomas Carlyle’s opinion, the external politics of a state is marked by its leader’s profi le. As an example, King George III and Lord North have lost the Britannic colonies due to their arrogance and uninspired decisions. Later, Adolf Hitler put the fi re on Europe because of his madness. Perhaps these familiar examples are refl ecting our human tendency to extremely simplify the complex situations, by transforming a complex political and military crisis into a simple consequence of leaders’ decisions. On the other hand, the history of the twentieth century shows us that the main political events are not only a consequence of the foreign policy, ignoring the impact of such giant fi gures (as Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Josef Stalin, Adolf Hitler, and Mao Ze-dong) have had.
