Publishing movement in Wrocław in the years 1945–1953

Summary/Abstract: The years 1945–1953 in Wrocław were a time of reconstruction of the city and creating an entirely new community, its cultural, educational and scientific life. One of the many problems of everyday life for new residents was a lack of printed texts in Polish. Beside creation of libraries and lending libraries, a startup of publishing movement was very important. It was started by about 50 institutions – professional publishing houses, bookshops, but also societies, educational institutions, offices, political parties, and finally the authors themselves or their families. The most important role among them was played by private institutions.
