Summary/Abstract: In a world dominated by confusion and loss of identity, mass-media de-centers traditions and stereotypes by putting forward the otherness of foreign cultures and, at the same time, it bridges cultural gaps by bringing different peoples closer to one another. In their turn, translators are forced to select and alter source texts by adapting them to the public’s perspectives and expectations, domesticating the alien so that it better suits the needs of the receiving audience. This paper intends to outline the complex tasks that news translators undergo in order to reshape sociocultural and linguistic coordinates in the process of news editing.
