Summary/Abstract: Globalization and the new technological developments in the line of machine translation have had a strong impact on the translators’ work, causing a rethinking of the relationship of the translator to the clients and the others, in general. While considerable attention has been paid to the phenomenon of machine translation and the new computer translation tools, less attention has been paid to the ethical issues arising from the positioning of the translators in an ever more challenging environment. The existing codes of ethics related to translation and translators approach aspects such as accountability, confidentiality, quality of the end product, but there is no mention of MT products. On the other hand, ethics of the profession is not included in most of the university curricula, in spite of the growing awareness of the importance of ethics in all areas of society.
