Summary/Abstract: Societies need resources such as: trust, values, norms, extensive vertical and horizontal interaction networks, for their existence and development. The size of these resources depends significantly on the type of the social order existing in a given society. A democratic state exists, develops or degenerates along with its resources. The paper is an attempt to demonstrate the relationship between the social and moral order, social capital and the moral bond as a special type of social ties. Social capital is one of the key factors determining the disposition of the society to grow and to maintain the moral and social order based on the democratic principles of social life. The conducted analysis attempts to answer the question of whether and to what extent social capital is a resource constituting the moral and social order of the contemporary Western societies.
