Summary/Abstract: If that happens, the possibility of Croatia becoming a member of the EU in 2007, along with Bulgaria and Romania, is increased. However, regardless of the relatively favourable opinion of the European Council on Croatia and its possible membership of the EU, Croatian society still faces a series of economic, ideological-political and socio-cultural problems. If these problems are not resolved, Croatia's joining the family of 25 European countries will not necessarily have a positive outcome. This article deals with these issues, as well as the prerequisites and possibilities of their resolution.
