Assessment of the development of a border area using Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship as an example

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to assess the level of the socioeconomic development of Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship. To this end, Perkal’s synthetic index was used. The variables for the model were determined in such a manner that they should describe the region’s socioeconomic situation and demonstrate its relationship with foreign countries. The research was carried out in 2004 and 2012 for all 16 voivodeships, which allowed for comparisons to be made. The research showed that the level of socioeconomic development of Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship is be assessed as good and stable. At the same time, it is important that the level of the region’s innovation should continue to grow.
