Summary/Abstract: The history of monasteries on Polish lands in the 19th century were related to Austrian, Prussian, and Russian policies towards the Church. The suppression of monasteries — not only Pauline ones — was accompanied by the secularization of its libraries, received not only by the monastic community as acts of destruction and vandalism. In 1819, the Warsaw Public Library received book collections from Pauline monasteries in Beszowa, Brdów, Łęczeszyce, Oporów, Pińczów, Wielgomłyny, and Warsaw. Thus, the Pauline Order suffered the most losses. The Jasna Góra Pauline Monastery was excluded from the cassation activities. The monastery was treated as a special, national Marian sanctuary, with unique pilgrimage activities; also, it was perfectly organized and ably administered.
