Summary/Abstract: Normal bodies, deviant bodies, fragmentary, drawn or photographed bodies: all of these were collected and turned into scientific specimens by the anatomist and physical anthropologist Francisc I. Rainer in Interwar Bucharest (Romania). It is the purpose of this study to explore how this collection came into being, to understand Rainer’s treatment of bodies in a wider disciplinary context and ultimately to prompt reflection on the ethical dimension of such endeavor.
