Summary/Abstract: The article aims to assess the level of fulfillment of the convergence criteria by the Slovak Republic up to the moment when Slovakia adopted euro. Further compliance with convergence criteria, till 2014, will also be considered. The analysis will allow to conclude, whether Slovakia managed to fulfill the convergence criteria in a stable and continued way, both before entering the last stage of Economic and Monetary Union, and during functioning in the euro area. The Slovak Republic adopted euro at the time of aggravated crisis 2008+, which spread into the member states of the EMU. Slovakia has also suffered during the crisis 2008+, what is reflected in the worsening of economic indicators. The article describes reforms conducted by the Slovak Republic on the road to euro and actions taken in order to fulfill convergence criteria. Some recommendations towards future necessary actions that Poland has to make to meet the convergence criteria were suggested. The article uses the method of descriptive analysis, literature analysis, comparative method and the analysis of numerical data. The paper is based on Polish and foreign literature and statistical data provided by the European statistical institutions.
