Summary/Abstract: Referring to what the Oriental sphere meant and its interactions with the Western world, over time, one can observe a deeply rooted relationship that was often discontinued by either political or economic motives. When France, a European power, turned to the Arab territories of the Ottoman Empire, their reactions at mental, cultural and social level made it so the replacement of the Ottoman Empire with a European power was not necessarily a reason for satisfaction. Therefore, the news regarding the French Mandate was regarded as an incovenience in Syria, and was taken better in Lebanon, in which the multicultural structure mitigated the novel situation.
