Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyze the charges and taxes used to reduce emissionsof fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) in European countries. A special attention was paidto the emission charges applied in Poland. In the first part of the article the author discussesthe effects of F-gas emissions on climate change. The next part of the article contains an analysisof the main measures undertaken in order to reduce emissions of fluorinated gases. Specialattention was paid to the European Union regulations on handling with such substances. The last part of the article provides the analysis of the design of charges and taxes on F-gasesused in Poland and other European countries. The design of the emission charges applied inPoland should be assessed critically. The reason is that rates of the charges do not stimulate touse gases with lower global warming potential.
