Summary/Abstract: The present article based on a complex of sources describes the unnoticed by historians action period of the Organizational Commission (Orgcommission) of Leningrad State University (LGU), which was established for conduction restructuring of University. All the sides of suddenly erupted conflict, as well as its origins and progression, were thoroughly studied by the author. Special attention is paid to reports written by organizer of the collective of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks in LGU as a peculiar type of historical source; the author estimated the very possibility to use these specific documents for research works. The author reconstructed events that took place in LGU in May 1925 – February 1926, when a series of active, but contradictory and thus ineffective actions of state and party organs resulted in situation reaching rock bottom. Despite official claims, Orgcommission – as a matter of fact, technical body – obtained administrative power over the University and started preparations for re-election of its Board. A mismatching composition of the Orgcommission caused unprecedented fact of the University being headed by “studentsadministrators”. Efforts taken by power woke up hopes of a certain part of professorship towards restitution of higher school autonomy by electing a representative of ‘old’ professors as a rector. This all resulted in escalation of simmering discontent with ‘new orders’ into the last open confrontation between ‘right’ and ‘left’ wings of the University.
